I got into underground rave culture because of Spiral Tribe, I was privileged to witness and experience the evolution of electronic music from Hip Hop, Electro, Hardcore, Jungle, House, Techno, Garage, Drum and Bass, Acid, Breakbeat, Gabba, Grime, Dubstep and thats what I took my DJ name from.
I never planned to be a DJ, I was a single mum and found TV boring, when my kids were asleep in bed I wanted something more constructive to do than watch TV, I was playing loads of Mario 64 then I realised if I put as much time into practising something creative like DJing, then maybe I could get levels, worse case at least Id get to know who was producing the music I loved.
I started collecting vinyl and playing with underground sound systems Amorphous (which I later joined as crew), Siren, Unsound, Sectionsix, Dissident, Acme, Bogotrax and others.
My son was same school year as P Money and in 2003 he was bringing home burnt CDs from school – thats where I first heard Essentials, D Double E, Wiley, Dizzee, Bossman, etc and it was by far the most exciting music I was hearing at that time… I started collecting white labels, Grime has been a passion, an addiction and lifeline ever since.
In early days I was playing on Hyper FM (pirate) and Wireless FM, later Global Vortex (USA), Nakedbeatz, QBaseFM, and since 2013, currently hosting “Grime for the Unconverted” Resonance 104.4FM.
Ive got productions released on one of my favourite grime labels Marxmen Dubs and on Global Vortex Records. I supported Newham Generals and S.K.I.T.Z Beatz on their Warrior Tour 2015 and started up “Grime Disse Ela” a platform to support the evolution of Grime in Iberia. I also play with a live band V4V. ” DJ BPM 2018
